When
The Boys Meet The Girls
(1992) MGM/UA Home Video ML102674 (97 min. + Original Theatrical Trailer)
A remake of the 1943 film Girl Crazy starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney, When The Boys Meet The Girls follows a corny plot. Harve Presnell plays a millionaire who tries to escape a chorus girl who is after his money. He flees to Nevada where he meets and falls in love with Connie Francis. He helps her father and her out of their impoverished existence by transforming their run-down ranch into a resort for divorcees waiting for their quickie divorces to go through.
The soundtrack relies heavily on musical numbers by George and Ira Gershwin, including I Got Rhythm, Embraceable You, and Bidin' My Time. Sam The Sham And The Pharaohs perform Monkey See, Monkey Do, Herman's Hermits perform Bidin' My Time and their hit single Listen People. Included in the movie, but not on the soundtrack album is It's All In Your Mind as performed by The Standells.

The
Fastest Guitar Alive
(c1966) MGM/UA Home Video M201657 (88 min.)
A vapid Civil War espionge plot nearly sinks this effort, Roy Orbison's only acting role in which he plays a singing Southern spy with a combination rifle/guitar. Using a cover of a medicine show he and his troupe smuggle gold across the Wild West. The two highlights of this plodding effort are Orbison's fine singing of six original new songs and Sam The Sham's (only acting) role as the 1st expressman.
Filmed on location in El Paso, Texas by Tony Richardson, Jack Nicholson plays a border patrolman played by Jack Nicholson. He is repulsed by the graft of the patrolmen who take payoffs from the American businessmen who hire wetbacks. Nicholson tries to help a young Mexican mother, Elpidia Carrillo. and has to put up with the abuse of his co-workers and the inevitability of being drawn into their circle of fraud.
Soundtrack by Ry Cooder includes performances by Sam Samudio singing his self-penned songs, "Palomita," and "No Quiero", Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, and Freddy Fender singing the title track "Across The Borderline."
